    Beginner and question about navigation

Hi to all of you, first I will introduce myself.

I'm Luis Fraile, from Spain, and I'm startig with MCML and Media Center applications, now I'm just trying with some samples, and well, it's being a little bit hard to start with it, hehehe. I have done several samples and so on, so I have little idea of MCML (very little)

And I was interested in create navigation asthe "home" page of the media center, with that horizntal scroll in the middle of the page, and the vertical one which cross with first one, ad I would like to get some idea about how to do it, as in Z samples and other ones I found I havent seen anything like that, even with horizontal scroll with has always the focus on the center, and so on.

So hanks in advance if someone can help me.

    Hi Luis,

You've probably picked the most difficult interface to start with - try doing interfaces that are a lot simpler first so that you have a thorough understanding of how MCML works, and then move on to the "Start" style interface.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

Re: Beginner and question about navigation

Yeah - you are trying to do something fairly advanced.

Once you have tried to make some programs (and you may want to read my blog - link below), and have become famillar with the visual components (Text, Graphic, Panel, Scroller, Repeater, Clip etc), you can then try to implement your idea.

Always start by grabbing a piece of paper and DRAWING what you want your interface to be.

So in this example, we start with your horizontal line. This is a scrolling region - so you will need a scroller. One that lays out it's parts - the individual options in each strip - horizontally.

Then you will want a number of these, moving down the page. And again, they will scroll. So you will need another scroller, this time scrolling vertically.

It's not particularly difficult once you know what's going on in MCML, but I'd start with getting simple buttons working, then move on to a vertically-scrolling list of buttons, then keep adding more in that way.

Ok, thanks a lot for both, in fact I'm starting with something easier, taking Z as base for learning, so I will keep trying to understand better everything before starting with that, I think the learning curve for MCML is hard at first, but anyway I will keep asking here when need help :)
